Samasati Nature Trek
A primal Journey within the Samasati Reserve. There are few rainforests and jungles being preserved on Earth today. Why is it so important to preserve these living energy biospheres? Learn from a jungle specialist who has a deep love and connection to the rainforest and nature within. Experience our interactive nature trek (or night hike) and all the magical forest inhabitants that may dance across your path. Within this living sanctuary one can encounter exotic animals like monkeys and sloths, observe some of the 400 bird species in the area, marvel at the hundreds of brightly colored or bizarre insects and butterflies and learn about the intelligent life living in harmony.

Cacao Ceremony
Immerse yourself in a truly unique journey that culminates in a colorful movement Meditation lead by our resident yoga teacher, Stephanie. You will start each ceremony with a short lesson on cacao, the local chocolate industry, the cosmology of the Bri Bri and the current affairs of the Cacao world. You will then be guided through a reverent and silent ceremony followed by a Shamanic journey meditation. Finally you will transition into a moving meditation that culminates in laughter and dancing.
You depart with a buoyant mood and knowledge about the origins, culture, and ethnobotany of Cacao as well as the religious and spiritual connects it brings to the Bri Bri people those who share in this special ceremony.
Stephanie has spent many years learning the ways of the indigenous people of the Talamancan mountains and their ceremonies and rituals. She has developed accessible methods to share this knowledge with respect to the ancient ways.

Jungle Adventure
An excursion full of emotion that allows you to experience several adrenaline packed activities all in one day in a stunningly lush setting. The tour begins when Terraventura picks you up at the hotel and takes you on a 30 minute drive to Coal River to meet your guide for basic explanations about safety. When ready the team will use a drop cable and a hammock bridge to access the river. The group traverses the river surrounded by beautiful landscape, rappelling and jumping pools along the way, there’s also time to swim in the natural pools.
The largest decline will be at the end, down a waterfall of about 20 meters. After this the group leaves the river and enters into the primary forest for the next adventure: climbing a 16 meter high tree. Using harnesses you’ll make your way to the very top where a platform with delicious boxed lunches await. After lunch it’s time to leave the platform and start the canopy tour.
Here you’ll enjoy high flying adrenaline charged activities like the Tarzan swing and multiple zip lines through the rainforest canopy. This is an adventure you will remember for a lifetime!

Zipline Canopy Tour
This activity will allow you to enjoy nature from a very different angle while gliding swiftly through the treetops of a gorgeous rainforest. Get picked up from the hotel and join the group on an excursion to the farm headquarters in Carbon. There the driver will drop you at the base of operations and one of the most spectacular zipline platforms (285 mts. Long and 80 mts. high). The first zipline takes you to the heart of the forest, where you will begin a guided nature walk learning about the flora and fauna of the primary forest, and the special properties tribes have discovered in plants. After the hike you’ll arrive at another platform to continue on the adventure.
The Canopy has 10 aerial platforms and 12 rigs measuring over 2760 meters of cable altogether. From the moment you get to the seventh platform you will not touch the ground until the end of the tour, so you’ll cross the jungle with a bird’s eye view! On this part of the tour, immersed in the primary forest, Terraventuras has changed the usual wire rope cables to carbon fiber-tech, which have the characteristic of being completely silent, thus avoiding noise disruption in the forest. The naturalist guide will continue explaining at each platform all the wonders of the environment in which they live. Towards the end of the aerial tour you make the descent from one platform to the ground with via a Tarzan swing!
Upon return to basecamp Terraventuras serves fruit and water in the rest area before the scenic drive back to your hotel.

Indigenous Reserve of Talamanca
Indigenous Life & Customs, Shaman Visit, Chocolate Tasting & Waterfall!
Get picked up at the hotel and join the group heading to the Bribri reservation, the country’s largest indigenous community and head of the canton of Talamanca where you’ll visit the Indian communities of Volio, Watsi and Santa Fe. The tour begins with a visit to Awa, Bribri for doctor/shaman, who will receive the group at his ranch with his family. There the family will share some of their customs and the history of Bribris.
Then you’ll walk to a sacred place on the mountain, where the Bribri have built a replica of holy Talamanca site where they believe God created the Bribri and other humans. The Awa will explain how they believe creation took place and demonstrate a few rituals. You will also have time to see the indigenous handicrafts before continuing your visit.
The tour continues with a visit to a Bribri family where 5 generations live under one roof. This will be direct contact with the lifestyle of these people, you’ll learn about their houses, how they cook, what plants they use for healing various diseases, how they produce chocolate and a myriad of details about the Bribri lifestyle. Of course you’ll get to taste the homemade chocolate with different aromas and flavors and will be served a typical Bribri lunch. Also included, you’ll have the opportunity to grind chocolate and discover the secrets of this ancient process.
After the family visit the group gets to visit one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the area, the Volio waterfall, the highest in the area at 35 meters tall. After freshening up in the pools it’s time to start the journey back to the hotel.

Bird Watching
This tour takes place in the Kekoldi Indian Reserve, an ideal place to watch a variety of birds in different habitats. During the course of the tour you will get to stop at a research center tower, which is designed for observing migratory birds. This place is considered the most important in the world for birds of prey.
From this vantage point the researchers see a seasonal average of 50,000 to 450,000 individuals per day during migration, among them are species such as hawks, falcons, red-headed vulture, stork herons, toucans, parrots, manakins, tanagers, hummingbirds, honeymooners, Euphonias, orioles, warblers, flycatchers, trogones, Magpie cheeked (endemic to the low slope of the Caribbean) and the surprise Buco Barbón. Migrations occur from north to south between August and December, and from south to north between February and May; but throughout the year we have a wide variety of endemic birds.

Cahuita National Park Hiking
Cahuita National Park allows for easy access to breaktaking flora, fauna, beaches and natural beauty! Cahuita is a small village located 16 km. north of Puerto Viejo famous for its beaches, most of which are within the National Park. This combination of idyllic white sand, coral reefs and coastal vegetation provides an opportunity to observe tropical species such as monkeys, sloths, snakes, frogs, butterflies, etc.
Terraventuras transportation will pick you up at the hotel and take you to Cahuita where your guide will be waiting. The knowledgeable guide will accompany you down the trails of the National Park revealing and educating on its various ecosystems and species. Halfway through you’ll stop at Punta Cahuita to rest and enjoy refreshments. At the end of the walk you’ll have time to swim at Cahuita beach before being transported back to the hotel.

Horseback Riding on the Beach
Here in Playa Chiquita we have some of the most beautiful, clean, open beaches on the Caribbean ocean. The rainforest is breathtaking with its plants and foliage of some of the most stunning flowers and plants you will ever see. Riding through the forest allows you to see monkeys, sloths, Black and Brown Hawks, Toucans flying overhead and other wildlife in their natural state. You will see some of the most exquisite colored butterflies as they shimmer through the sunlight that shines almost year around.
Experience for yourself riding out of the forest feeling the cool sea breeze on you as you see the clear blue ocean with white capped waves crashing on the clean sandy beaches as the sun shines to brighten an incredible day of riding. Our rides start at Playa Chiquita de Talamanca going north to Puerto Viejo or south to Manzanillo. We also offer rides to local restaurants, weddings, birthdays special events and requests.
